چکیده

Background The forest fragments of Stryphnodrendron adstringens have disappeared because of the high rate of Brazilian Savannah deforestation for commercial purposes, such as eucalypt, citrus, soy bean, and sugar cane crops that have been intensely cultivated on those areas [1]. Economically, S. adstringens is important for manufacture industries of paints and tanneries, but also is utilized for therapy against ulcer, scurvy, and for antiseptic and healing purposes [2]. Considering the forestry sector, the species is potential for building uses because of their wood have high density and durability [3]. Aiming for germplasm preservation and for breeding programs we studied the spatial genetic structure of S. adstringens based on SSR markers.

Effect of Stryphnodendron adstringens (barbatimão) bark on animal models of nociception

The antinociceptive activity of the crude extract and fractions of Stryphnodendron adstringens (Martius) Coville (barbatimão) was evaluated. Three experimental models of pain induction were used: abdominal writhing, formalin, and hot plate. The results demonstrated an antinociceptive effect of barbatimão in the experimental models of writhing induced by acetic acid and pain induced by formalin....

Analysis of the polyphenols content in medicinal plants based on the reduction of Cu(II)/bicinchoninic complexes.

A spectrophotometric method is proposed for the determination of the polyphenols content in aqueous extracts of plants. The method is based on the reduction of Cu(II) to Cu(I) by polyphenols, in the presence of bicinchoninic acid in a buffered medium (ammonium acetate, pH 7.0) with the formation of Cu(I)/BCA complexes. A calibration curve of absorbance (at 558 nm) vs tannic acid concentration i...

Acute and Chronic Toxicity of an Aqueous Fraction of the Stem Bark of Stryphnodendron adstringens (Barbatimão) in Rodents

Stryphnodendron adstringens has a high tannin content and is used as an antiseptic and antimicrobial and in the treatment of leucorrhea, gonorrhea, wound healing, and gastritis. The present study evaluated the toxic effects of the heptamer prodelphinidin (F2) from the stem bark of S. adstringens in rodents. In the acute toxicity test, the mice that received oral doses exhibited reversible effec...
